Nine get investigative journalism award

Nine journalists yesterday received “Investigative Journalism Awards-2016” of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for their in-depth reporting on corruption.

Of them, four are reporters, three camerapersons, one joint news editor and one deputy editor of different print and electronic media at both local and national level.

The function was held at TIB's office in the capital.

In the national print media category, Shahed Shafiq, staff reporter of jagonews24.com, got the award for his series report “Kemon Aco Upakul” (how are you coast).

In local print media category, Rezaul Karim, joint news editor in the Daily “Ilsheypar” of Chandpur, got the award for his 29-part series on corruption in education sector in Chandpur. 

Shafiq Shahin and Badruddoza Babu, special correspondents of private television channels NTV and Maasranga Television, received the award jointly in the electronic media (report) category.

Alauddin Ahmed and GM Faysal Alam, deputy editor and senior staff reporter respectively of Jamuna Television, jointly received the award in the electronic media (documentary) category.

Three camerapersons: Mohsin Mukul, Kazi Mohammed Ismail and Golam Kibria of Jamuna Television were awarded jointly for their work in two documentaries.

The reporters, joint news editor and deputy editor got the prize money of Tk 1 lakh each, while the camerapersons got Tk 33,000 each.

Jose Carlos Sanchez-Moreno, chair of international board of directors of Transparency International, Iftekharuzzaman, TIB executive director, and Sultana Kamal, trustee board's chairperson, were present.

TIB has been giving the investigative journalism award since 1999.
