Yaba inside corpse!

Forensic doctors at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, while conducting autopsy on a 40-year-old unidentified woman yesterday, found some solid items inside her stomach.

Taken out, morgue assistants discovered 57 small packets wrapped in tape. The packets contained around 1,500 yaba pills, said Zanea Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Police Station.

Yesterday's recovery of yaba from inside a dead body is the first of its kind. Law enforcers earlier arrested a number of people trying to smuggle yaba pills inside their stomachs.

“The woman might have died from swallowing the packets,” the OC suspected.

Police is trying to identify her.

Zanea Alam said several people took the woman to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Monday afternoon but fled after doctors declared her dead. On information, police rushed to the hospital, prepared an inquest report on the body, and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.

Doctors informed police after recovering the contraband pills from her stomach during post-mortem, he added.

Police is analysing CCTV footage of the NICVD to trace those who brought the woman to the hospital.
