Xulhaz-Tonoy Murder: CTTC fails to submit probe report for 20th time

A Dhaka court yesterday directed Counter Terrorism & Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of DMP to submit by February 18 the probe report of the case filed over the murders of LGBT magazine editor Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Rabby Tonoy in 2016.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saiduzzaman Sharif passed the order after CTTC inspector and investigating officer of the case Md Monirul Islam failed to submit a probe report by yesterday.

With this, the investigating agency has taken 20 dates for submitting the probe report to the court.

Meanwhile on January 15, CTTC arrested Asadullah alias Fakrul alias Faisal, an active member of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team for his alleged involvement with the killings. The arrestee is now on a three-day remand for the second time.

USAID staffer Xulhaz, who used to work as a protocol officer for former US ambassador in Dhaka, Dan W Mozena, and his friend Tonoy were hacked to death inside Xulhaz's flat on April 25, 2016.

Apart from Asadullah, three other ABT men have been arrested in this connection so far. They have given confessional statements before magistrates on different dates, court sources said.
