This year’s theme was “Make sure to do electrophoresis test of blood before marriage, to protect upcoming newborn from Thalassaemia”.

Different organisations chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day, that included processions, discussions, cultural functions and sports competitions.

Bangladesh Thalassaemia Foundation (BTF) organised a discussion, with advisor of the organisation Dr Syeda Masuma Rahman in the chair.

According to BTF, every year 15,000 new babies are born with Thalassaemia in Bangladesh, and the number is gradually increasing every year.
