Women's unpaid work must be recognised

Anu Muhammad tells book launching event

If unpaid work of women is included in the country's gross domestic product, its size will increase and also their contribution in GDP will be recognised, said Prof Anu Muhammad yesterday.

“At least 80 percent household work of women are not included... If we add that, country's economy would increase by around 30 percent,” he said while speaking at a book launch event on the campus as chief guest.

The book, “Banglar Somaj o Sangskritite Nari” (Women in society and culture of Bengal), is edited by Prof Naseem Akhter Hossain of government and politics department and associate professor Parvin Jolly of history department.

Over 200 teachers, students and guests were present at the event. A short film, “Agunpakhi”, was also screened.
