Ex-Husband Murder

Woman, three accomplices get death

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a woman -- and three others -- to death, for killing her ex-husband and cutting the dead body into seven pieces in April 2013.

The convicts are Shorna Akhter Kakoli, Anwar Hossain Mollah, Sharif Matbor, and Ibrahim Khalil.

Of the convicts, Anwar and Kakoli were produced before the court by police, while the two others have been absconding. Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka handed down the sentence. The punishment of the fugitives will be effective from the day of their arrest or surrender, and the convicts can appeal to High Court  within 30 days, said the judge.

The victim, Monir, was a resident of Munshihati village under Kamrangirchar Police Station. On April 17, 2013, he was abducted and later killed by the convicts including his estranged wife Kakoli. The convicts cut the victim’s body into pieces, and dumped them in different areas.

Later on April 28, police recovered pieces of the body from different places.

A murder case was filed against unidentified people on April 19. Police arrested four people, of whom three including Kakoli gave confessional statements before magistrates.
