Woman found dead in Dhaka

Police recovered the body of an elderly woman from her residence in Dhaka’s Mirpur area yesterday afternoon.

Shahnaz Begum, 65, was the owner of the five-storey building located on road-6 in the area, Dadan Fakir, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station told The Daily Star.

Her daughter-in-law Nazneen Akter first saw the body around 12:30pm after she went to Shahnaz’s room on the first floor where the woman used to live alone. On information, police recovered the body around 1pm, the official said.

Her hands and legs were tied up and mouth was taped, he said.

A pair of gold bangles was missing. Police suspected that she might have been killed after 8am, as one of her grandchildren was with her until then.

Her son, daughter’s family, and some tenants live on the other floors of the building.
