VNS Student’s Suicide: Charges against two teachers accepted

A Dhaka court yesterday accepted the charges pressed against two teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in a case filed over instigating the suicide of ninth-grader Aritry Adhikary last year.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury accepted charges against Nazneen Ferdous, acting principal and Zinat Akhtar, morning shift in-charge, after scrutinising the case dockets.

The court also relieved Aritry’s class teacher Hasna Hena of the charges as the investigating officer appealed for her discharge.

Aritry was found hanging from the ceiling of her home in Shantinagar on December 3 last year, hours after she and her parents were allegedly insulted by some teachers of the school.

The next day, her father Dilip Adhikary filed the case with Paltan Police Station accusing three teachers of provoking Aritry’s suicide.

On March 28, an inspector of Detective Branch of police Kazi Kamrul Islam submitted the charge sheet against Nazneen Ferdous and Zinat Akhtar to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
