Vivekananda Parishad: 31 visually impaired DU students get stipends

Vivekananda Shiksha o Sangskriti Parishad, Bangladesh yesterday handed over stipends to 31 visually impaired students of Dhaka University, marking the 157th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and 30th establishment anniversary of the Parishad.

The social welfare organisation also distributed education materials among 50 students of Vivekananda School, run by the Parishad, in Old Dhaka to spread education among the students of Harijan community.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman was the chief guest while Swami Purnatmananda Maharaj, principal of Dhaka Ramakrishna Math, was present as guest of honour at the programme held at DU’s Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium. The event included a discussion and cultural sessions.

With Parishad’s president Akhil Chandra Bhowmik in the chair, DU Jagannath Hall’s provost Prof Mihir Lal Saha, Parishad’s central governing body president Joyanta Kumar Dev and Sarada Sangha, Dhaka’s general secretary Meera Saha, and Parishad’s general secretary Karuna Kishore Chakraborty, among others, spoke on the occasion.
