A septuagenarian who sustained burns in a gas blast in Dhalpur on Friday and was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) has died.

Atar Begum, 70, who sustained 75 per cent burns, died around 8:00pm, Sub- Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, told The Daily Star.

Three other victims of the blast Sumon, 40, his wife Sajuly, 35, and their son Nishan, 14, are undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.

Nisan is now undergoing treatment at Incentive Care Unit with 50 percent burn injuries.

“We have spent Tk 50,000 for their treatment, mostly taking loan from others with high interest rate,” said Abdur Rouf, grandfather of Nishan, an auto-rickshaw driver.

“It is a challenge of us to bear the treatment cost,” he said.

Previously, one Tahsin, a nursery student, died after the gas blast in Dhalpur City Colony.
