US Ambassador-designate Earl R Miller arrives

The newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Earl R Miller, arrived in Dhaka on Sunday, the US Embassy in Dhaka said yesterday.

He succeeded Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, who served as  the US ambassador to Bangladesh since February 4, 2015.

Bernicat left Dhaka on November 2 after discharging her diplomatic duties in Bangladesh for nearly four years.

The US ambassador-designate will formally begin his assignment after presenting credentials to President Abdul Hamid, said foreign ministry officials.

Prior to his appointment in Bangladesh, Miller served as ambassador to Botswana from 2014 to 2018.

He was confirmed as the ambassador to Bangladesh by US Senate on October 11 after President Donald Trump nominated him for the post on July 17, 2018.

Ambassador Miller, a career member of the US Senior Foreign Service, joined the Department of State in 1987.

Previously, he served as consul general at the US Consulate General in Johannesburg of South Africa from 2011 to 2014.

He also served in US embassies in El Salvador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq and India.
