National Professor Anisuzzaman, artist Hashem Khan, former cultural affairs secretary Aktari Momotaj and Bangladesh National Museum Director General Abdul Mannan Ilias, among others, were present at the programme.

Tasmima Hossain, editor of the daily Ittefaq and Anannya, presided over the ceremony where writer of the book, Maleka Khan, delivered welcome speech.

Anisuzzaman said the willingness as well as efforts of all would play a role for Nakshi Kantha's existence in the days to come.

Hashem Khan thanked Tasmima Hossain for being a patron of such an initiative.

In her speech, Tasmima said Maleka Khan has been playing an important role in women's development and their empowerment.

Noted Lalon singer Farida Parveen rendered songs after the discussion.

The book with 40 chapters and pictures focuses on the experience of marginalised women sewing Nakshi Kantha which is a type of embroidered quilt. It is a centuries-old Bengali art tradition in Bangladesh. The basic material used is thread and old cloth.
