Two youths found dead in Dhaka hotel

Two youths were found dead in a hotel room in the capital's Farmgate area yesterday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Aminul Islam Sajal, 21, a student of Tejgaon College; and Moriam Akter Jerin, 20, a student of a private university, said Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station.

They booked the room on Monday afternoon claiming to be married, Rostom Ali, a staffer of Hotel Samrat, told The Daily Star.

“We repeatedly knocked on the door to know about their check out time, but they did not respond since 10am,” he added.

Around 12:30pm, on information from hotel staff, police broke open the door of room 808 and found Sajal's body on the bed, and Jerin's on the floor, OC Mazharul said.

“It is not clear whether they were murdered or they died by suicide,” the OC said, adding, the bodies bore no marks of injuries.

Police picked up three staff members for interrogation in this connection, their colleagues said.

Meanwhile, the bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for autopsies.
