Two students killed in road accidents

Four people were killed in road accidents in four districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Barishal, a primary school student was killed as a bus ran her over on Barishal-Swarupkathi road in Gabtali area of Banaripara upazila.

The victim -- Lamia Aktar -- was a second-grader of West Narayanpur Government Primary School.

The accident happened while she was crossing the road to go to school, said Mizanur Rahaman, sub-inspector of Banaripara Police Station.

Angered by the death, locals blocked the road for at least two hours, said the SI.

They seized the bus of Seba Paribahan but the driver managed to flee, said the police officer.

In Jhenidah, another school student was killed instantly as a truck hit a bicycle he was riding at Chuakaitala Bazar.

Uzzal, 15, son of Dilip Biswas from Shikarpur village in Sadar upazila, was a class 9 student of Munuria Secondary School.

Police and witnesses said Uzzal was returning home from his grandfather's house in Sholoy village. The law enforcers sent the body to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

In Chattogram, a man was killed as a truck hit him on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sitakunda area.

Md Mohsin, 42, from Lalpur area in Chandpur Sadar, was declared dead at Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex.

In Dinajpur, an elderly woman was killed after a pickup truck hit her on Dinajpur-Rangpur highway in Baravita village of Chirirbandar upazila.
