Two die, two missing in boat capsize

Two people died and two children went missing in two separate incidents of boats capsizing in Companiganj upazila of Sylhet yesterday. 

Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam confirmed the reports and informed that the deceased worked for sand extraction operations.

“Two workers died as they drowned in the river Dholai. Their boat capsized while extracting sand at Rajnagar area.

Their bodies were later recovered from the river,” said Tajul.

The deceased were identified as Nayeem Hossain and Jomir Hossain. Both hailed from Bishwambarpur upazila in Sunamganj.

In a separate incident, two children went missing after their boat also capsized.

“Two children went missing as a small passenger boat capsized in the river at Tukerbazar area.

Fire Service and Civil Defence divers are trying to recover the missing children but they suspect that the children might not have survived,” said Tajul.

 

TOURIST GOES MISSING AT BHOLAGANJ

Meanwhile, a tourist also went missing after he went swimming in the river at Bholaganj area of the upazila.

The tourist, one Hasanur Rahman Abir, a resident of Majumdari in Sylhet was a student of civil engineering at Leading University.

He went missing at around 1pm when he tried to swim in the Dholai river at Bholaganj.

OC Tajul stated that the missing tourist came to Bholaganj with his friends. He was swept away by the strong tides in the river while swimming.

He added that divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence had tried to recover the body of Abir until yesterday afternoon.
