Two dengue patients die in Dhaka, Jashore

Two persons died of dengue over the last two days in Dhaka and Jashore.

Delowar Hossain, 42, passed away yesterday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), hospital sources said.

Ziaur Rahman, brother-in-law of the deceased, said Delowar -- owner of a shoe factory -- had been suffering from fever for the last five days. He was diagnosed with dengue around three days back.

The Kamrangirchar resident was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and breathed his last around 1pm yesterday, he said.

In Jashore, a housewife died of dengue fever at Jashore General Hospital on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Sagarika Ghosh, 28, from Mollahpara Amtola area, our Benapole correspondent reports.

Sagarika was admitted to the hospital after she was diagnosed with dengue fever on October 9, said Dr Abul Kalam Azad, caretaker of Jashore General Hospital.

Her husband Ananda Ghosh said Sagarika and their daughter Swastika, 12, became ill a week ago. They were initially admitted to the local Keshabpur Health Complex.

Sagarika was later shifted to Jashore General Hospital while Swastika is still undergoing treatment in Keshabpur Health Complex.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 93 persons have died of dengue so far this year.

A total of 300 patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in 24 hours till 8am yesterday, of whom 214 are outside Dhaka,

according to DGHS. A total of 92,166 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country this year, of whom 48,184 were in Dhaka, DGHS says.

A total of 1,154 dengue patients are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country, of whom 726 are outside Dhaka.
