Two confess to M’singh Jubo League man murder

Two youths have confessed to their involvement in Jubo League activist Rezaul Karim Russel’s murder in Mymensingh.

The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdul Hye recorded confessional statements of Mobarak Hossain and Azizul Islam and sent them to jail on Wednesday, said Akram Hossain, sub-inspector of detective branch and investigation officer of the case.

A group of assailants stabbed Russel to death near Mrittunjoy School in the city early Tuesday.

A member of the district unit of Jubo League, Russel was also a former vice president of district BCL.

Victim’s father Jalal Uddin filed a murder case against some 14 persons with Kotwali Police Station later that day.

Abdullah Al Mamun Arif, former president of BCL’s Mymensingh city unit, was named as the prime accused, said Officer-in-Charge Mahmudul Islam yesterday.

Other accused are: Rana and Devit Rony from the city and Badal from Char Gobindapur village in Sadar upazila.

Jalal in his case alleged that Arif tried to abduct Russel’s niece from the city a year ago and Russel foiled the attempt.

The two also fought over political issues. Russel once informed his elder sister Jesmin Ara Poly on May 13 that Arif had been plotting to kill him, according to the case.

The OC said police already found clues behind the killing and are trying to arrest other suspects.
