‘TV explosion’: Husband succumbs, wife in critical condition

A man, who suffered 97 per cent burn injuries in a fire caused by a “TV explosion” at a house in Dhaka’s Agargaon area on May 16, died at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital today.

Akhter Hossain, 40, a pharmaceutical trader, breathed his last around 2:00am, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, told The Daily Star.

His wife Salma Akhter, 35, also suffered 95 per cent burn injuries in the incident and is being treated at DMCH.

The incident took place on the ground floor of a three-storey building in Pashchim Agargaon around 4:00pm on May 16.

The fire broke out supposedly following explosion of an old television set at Akhter’s flat.

The couple’s son is safe as he was out of the house during the incident, added the OC.
