Career-oriented seminar starts at DU

Aiming to help economics graduates find opportunities and set their career goals, “Aspiration Week”, a career-oriented seminar, started at Dhaka University yesterday.

Economics Career Alliance (ECA), a student-based organisation of DU’s economics department, organised the five-day event.

The department’s Chairperson Prof Shafique uz Zaman inaugurated the programme at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium.

In its first session titled, “Towards your destination”, panelists discussed the current situation of job market, why the number of unemployed graduates is increasing and career opportunities in job sectors.

Four panelists -- Dr Minhaj Mahmud, senior research fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies;

Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star; Niloufer Manzur, principal of Sunbeams School and Prof AK Enamul Haque of East West University delivered speeches in the session that started around 2:30pm.

The event comprises six more sessions, which will highlight academic counseling, overcoming stress, career planning, skills development and green initiative.

The programme will conclude on November 14.
