TK Group fined for construction on Inani beach

The Department of Environment (Chattogram region) yesterday fined TK Group Tk 20 lakh for constructing structures on Inani sea beach at Cox's Bazar, declared an ecologically critical area (ECA).

TK Group was building a hotel and boundary wall on the sea beach without obtaining site clearance from DoE, Muktadir Hasan, assistant director of DoE, told The Daily Star.

The officials of the group were summoned to attend a hearing at DoE office in the port city's Khulshi area. They were fined for violating the Environment Conservation Act, Muktadir added.

DoE also issued an order to remove the construction within a month, he said.
