Three more testify before court

A Dhaka court yesterday recorded statements of three more students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College, in connection with the case filed over the death of two of its students.

The students who gave statements before the court are: Jayanti Rani Das, Priyanka Biswas and Naim Rahman.

On July 29, two Jabal-E-Noor Paribahan buses were racing each other moments before one of them ploughed into a crowd, killing Abdul Karim Rajib, 18, and Dia Khanam Mim, 17, in Kurmitola.

A case was filed with Cantonment Police Station by Dia’s father Md Jahangir.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court recorded the statements of the students. They were also cross-examined by the defence counsel.

In their statements, the students said, at 12:30pm they were waiting at the bus stop when two buses of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan were approaching recklessly. One of the buses ploughed into them injuring 15 students. Of them, Dia and Rajib, who were critically injured, died at Kurmitola General Hospital.

Thirteen others, including the trio, were treated at Kurmitola General Hospital and later at Combined Military Hospital.

The court set today for the next hearing of the case. Earlier, 13 other witnesses including, Md Jahangir, testified before the court.

On October 25, the trial court framed homicide charges against six accused, including two drivers, two helpers, and two owners of Jabal-E-Noor Paribahan.
