Three killed in road accidents

Three people were killed and another was injured in road accidents in two districts during the last two days, according to reports from our local correspondents.

In Mymensingh, two employees of a company were killed and another was injured as a covered van hit a motorbike they were riding on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Hazir Bazar area of Bhaluka upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased -- identified as Zakir Hossain (25) and Ashraful Islam (27), who were from Bhaluka -- worked for SMC, said Md Hadiul Islam, sub-inspector of Bharaduba Highway Police.

The injured -- Ridoy Mia (23) -- was taken to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex from where he was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said the SI.

Police seized the covered van and arrested its driver Shah Jalal (35), said the SI.

In Joypurhat, an elderly man was killed as a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit him in Akkelpur upazila yesterday.

The deceased -- Abdul Gafur (70) -- hailed from Dhulatol village in Sadar upazila, said police.

He died while he was being taken to a nearby health complex.
