Three judges appointed to Appellate Division

Three High Court judges have been appointed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

The judges are Justice Zinat Ara, Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee and Justice Md Nuruzzaman, Law Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque Dulal told The Daily Star.

The president made the appointment as per the constitution, he said, adding that the law ministry issued a gazette notification on the appointment yesterday.

The new judges will be sworn in today.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain will administer oath to them at the Supreme Court's Judges' Lounge at 10:30am, said SC Registrar General Md Zakir Hossain.

With the latest additions, the number of Appellate Division judges stands at seven. The three judges have been appointed, since the apex court is going through a shortage of judges for more than two years.
