Three get life-term for 2011 murder, robbery

A Khulna court yesterday sentenced three people to life imprisonment for killing Md Yunus Ali, manager of Satu Diognostic Centre, in the city on June 13, 2011.

The convicts were also fined Tk 10,000 each for the murder, in default of which they would have to spend six more months in jail.

Besides, each convict was handed an additional seven years’ imprisonment and fined Tk 5,000 in default of which they would have to serve six more months, for looting Tk 1,70000 from the diagnostic centre, said court sources.

Another three convicts of the case were handed two months’ imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000 each for concealing information.

Additional Metropolitan Judge Rozina Akhtar pronounced the verdict yesterday. 

The life-term convicts are: Md Sabbir Hossain, Sheikh Rubayet Hossain, and Md Sohel Sheikh. The other three convicts are Rana Kabir, Hafizur Rahman and Pankaj Shil.

All the convicts except Rana were present in the court during the verdict.

Victim’s brother Amzad Hossain had filed the murder case with Khulna Sadar Police Station, the day after the murder.

Kazi Mostaq Ahmed, the then sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station and investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against six people on September 7, 2011.

Public Prosecutor Sabbir Ahmed represented the case’s complainant.
