Three bills placed in JS to publish HSC results
A parliamentary body yesterday finalised three bills to publish the results of the HSC and equivalent examinations by January 28.
Now, the bills will be placed before the House.
Workers Party MP Fazle Hossain Badsha presided over the meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka in absence of the committee chairman Afsarul Amin, an Awami League lawmaker.
The bills are -- Intermediate and Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2021, Bangladesh Vocational Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Dipu Moni placed the bills in the House and they were sent to the parliamentary standing committee on the education ministry for further assessment and report back to the parliament.
The parliamentary committee was asked to submit its reports on "Intermediate and Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill" within one day while "Vocational Education Board (Amendment) Bill" and "Madrasah Education Board (Amendment) Bill" within two days.
It was proposed to promulgate three ordinances amending "Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1961", "Bangladesh Vocational Education Board Act 2018" and "Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board Act 2020" to publish the results of HSC and equivalent candidates.
While placing the bill, the education minister said as per existing laws, there is no provision to publish the results of HSC and equivalent exams without holding tests.
Since it is not possible to hold examinations during the pandemic, the amendment bills were placed, she added.
The results will be published after coordinating 75 percent of the SSC and 25 percent of JSC-JDC results, Dipu Moni told the media earlier.
The HSC and equivalent examinations were postponed due to Covid-19 situation.
On January 11, the cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved amending the Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1961, Bangladesh Vocational Education Board Act 2018 and Madrasa Education Board Act 2020 allowing the education boards to publish results without holding examinations during any crisis.
In December last year, the education minister said the government would promulgate an ordinance for publishing the HSC results of 13,65,789 candidates under 11 educational boards by the first week of this January.
The scheduled HSC and equivalent examinations were cancelled on October 7 due to the pandemic.
In October, the education ministry formed a seven-member technical committee for developing a method to evaluate the candidates based on their previous SSC and JSC results.
The HSC batch of 2020 will be the first batch of students who will get certificates without sitting for the examinations as it is the first time in the history of the country that a public examination has been cancelled.
