Test-ride goes horribly wrong for Tangail teen

10th-grader dies after crashing motorbike

What began as an exciting experience ended in tragedy when  Mohammad Nayeem (15), a 10th grader of Tangail's Momtaz Ali High School,  died after crashing the motorbike he was learning to ride.

The accident took place at Tangail's Dhanbari upazila yesterday afternoon, reports our Tangail correspondent.

Quoting  locals, Chan Miah, officer-in-charge of Dhanbari Police Station, said  Nayeem had borrowed the vehicle from one of his friends to learn how to ride it.However, as he was doing so, he lost control of the steering and crashed into a  roadside tree. The collision threw him off the vehicle and he received serious injuries to his head, the OC said.

Locals who were nearby rescued and rushed him to Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex. But the injuries proved to be too much; he was eventually declared dead by on-duty doctors.

Following Nayeem's demise, a shroud of mourning prevailed across the area.

In Patuakhali, two people were killed and seven others were seriously  injured in a collision between a microbus and a  battery-run  auto-rickshaw at Gabua area under Sadar upazila.

The incident took place around 6pm yesterday on Patuakhali-Barishal highway, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.

Passengers  of the auto-rickshaw were part of a wedding entourage, returning to  their homes at Bauphal upazila after attending the wedding lunch at the  bride's house at Shiali village, SI of Patuakhali Police Station Mehdi  Hassan confirmed.

They were traveling along with the bride and bridegroom. However, they no harm befell them as they were on a microbus.

The  deceased were identified as Kutti Talukdar (42) and Nurul Islam (50).  Both died on the spot. The injured have been taken to  Patuakhali  General Hospital in critical condition.

Police detained the killed microbus. However, its driver and passengers fled the scene, SI Mehdi said.

In Bhola Sadar, a biker was killed in a road crash on the Bhola-Tualtoli Jongshon road at Tulatoli yesterday afternoon, reports our Jhalakathi correspondent. 

The deceased was identified as Shohag (25), a construction worker, said Raton kumar Shil, Officer-in-Charge of Purba Ilisha Police Outpost.

He died on the spot after a goods-laden trolley hit him, the OC said.

Police failed to detain the driver who managed to escape the scene. In another bike accident in Sirajganj, two people, including a  marine technology student, were killed after a  bus hit their bike at Konabari of Kamarkhand upazila on  Tuesday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased are: Hasinur Rahman (25) and his cousin Miraj Uddin (22), a student of marine  technology.

Syed Shaheed Alam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge Paschim  Police Station, said the accident occurred around 5am when a passenger bus hit the bike, leaving Hasinur dead on the spot and Miraj severely injured. The cousins were going to Dinajpur from the marine technology students' hostel in Sirajganj, he said.

Police took Miraj to the 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh  Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital where on-duty doctors pronounced him  dead, the OC added.
