Teenager dies falling off 9-storey building in capital

A teenage boy died yesterday morning after he fell from the roof of a nine-storey building in the capital's Mohammadpur area.

According to police, 19-year-old Mishal Hossain Ovi came to the building named Moyur Villa two hours before the incident. He is a resident of Mirpur DOHS area.

Mukul Ranjan, sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station, said they were told that Mishal fell off while he was taking a photograph, standing on the security railing on top of the building's roof.

However, police are investigating to ascertain whether he fell off accidently, died by suicide, or was pushed off by someone, he said.

Police and witnesses also said Mishal and several other youths, including a female resident of the building, were having a casual conversation on the rooftop in the morning, before Mishal fell off and sustained critical injuries around 10:45am.

Doctors at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital pronounced him dead after he was rushed there.

Police picked up six persons from the building for interrogation and later handed them over to their guardians, said Abul Kalam Azad, inspector (investigation) of the police station.

The body of the deceased was handed over to family members after autopsy.
