Teachers main force behind building skilledhuman resource

Says edu minister

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday urged teachers to perform their duties with dedication and utmost sincerity, terming them the “main force to develop skilled manpower”.

Teachers should groom the young generation with quality education to build an economically advanced country, he told a discussion in the auditorium of Army Golf Club Garden in Dhaka, an official release said.

Nahid said, “Teaching is a noble profession. We have given different facilities, including increasing salary and other benefits, to ensure dignified life of teachers.”

He said the government has attached top priority to expansion of technical and vocational education.

The government has set a target of 30 percent enrolment in technical education by 2030, aiming to transform Bangladesh into an economically developed country.

In 2009, students' enrolment in technical education stood at one percent, while the current rate is 14 percent, he said.  “To maximise the benefit of using ICT in classrooms, we need trained, motivated and technology-friendly teachers who will make the whole process effective and successful,” the minister added.

Additional Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division AKM Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan, Additional Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Nazmul Haque Khan and Chairman of Technical Education Board Md Mostafizur Rahman, among others, addressed the discussion with President of Bangladesh Technical Education Welfare Association Md Nazmul Islam in the chair.
