Sufia Kamal’s 20th death anniversary

The 20th death anniversary of poet Begum Sufia Kamal will be observed across the country today. 

On the occasion, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages, paying profound respect to the poet.

“Her life and literary works inspire the new generation deeply and she will remain a source of inspiration forever,” Hamid said, praising the poet’s struggle for a society with equal rights for all.

In her message, the PM conveyed her profound respect for Sufia Kamal, highlighting her as one of the pioneers of the progressive, democratic and women’s emancipation movements in Bangladesh.

Born on June 20, 1911 in an aristocratic family, Sufia Kamal dedicated her entire life to the promotion of women’s liberty, progressive thinking and non-communal politics.
