Stray dogs killed three fawns and their mother in Rajshahi zoo today, our Rajshahi correspondent reports.

Five dogs entered the deer enclosure of the zoo and killed the animals around dawn, Samar Kumar Paul, executive magistrate of Rajshahi City Corporation which oversees the zoo, said.

The dogs had entered through a damaged portion of the enclosure and killed the animals, he said.

Zoo staffers later drove the dogs away, he said.

"Stray dogs [of the city] are remaining hungry," Samar said, adding that the dogs used to get food from local restaurants, but those were now closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

"It was an accident," he said.

The corporation official said they sought an explanation from the zoo officials over the accident.

The zoo currently has 71 deers and has seen 15 new births in the past three months.
