Some NGOs cooperating with Myanmar: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said some NGOs are cooperating with Myanmar, while BNP is using the Rohingya issue as a political tool against the government.

Claiming that some international NGOs are hatching conspiracy indirectly over the Rohingya issue, Quader at a discussion in the capital said, “Some NGOs are cooperating with  Myanmar. Among those, there are some pro-Pakistan NGOs. They have given shelter to the killers of Bangabandhu. They want to put us in trouble at every step.”

Failing in politics, BNP has now taken the route of conspiracy, he said, adding that the party is using the Rohingya issue as a political tool to cause problems for the government.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) organised the  meeting on its premises, marking the 44th death anniversary of Father of  the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.

Quader, also Awami League general secretary, said steps are underway to bring the killers of Bangabandhu back from Canada and the United States, but Pakistan is not extraditing two of the killers.

It has been proven in courts and written in history  that BNP men were the masterminds behind the August 15 carnage and the  August 21 grenade attack, Quader added.

Chaired by BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque; Bangladesh Medical Association president Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin and its secretary general Dr Md Ehteshamul Huq Choudhury; Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad president Prof Dr Iqbal Arslan and its secretary general Prof Dr MA Aziz; and BSMMU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Prof Dr Md Shahidullah Sikder.
