Six sent to jail in Anik murder case

A Chattogram court sent six accused of the Anik murder case to jail after they surrendered before the court yesterday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman passed the order after the six accused sought bail in connection with the case, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) (prosecution) Kazi Shahbuddin Ahmed of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

The six accused are: Mintu Dash, 32, Rocky Das, 22, Oprajit, 22, Ovi, 21, Durjoy, 21 and Ajoy, 21.

Abu Jafar Md Anik, a 26, was killed in June 17 last year. His father filed a case with Chawakbazar Police Station accusing 27 persons.

Police arrested four in connection with the murder from Cumilla and from Kolkata, said AC Shahbuddin, adding, Police and local sources said Anik as well as his killers were involved with politics of Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League.

 

28 BNP MEN SENT TO JAIL IN CTG

Meanwhile, another Chattogram court yesterday sent 28 leaders and activists of BNP's Chattogram Metropolitan unit to jail in connection with 11 cases.

Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha of Metropolitan Session Judge's court in Chattogram passed the order after the BNP men surrendered before the court and sought bail in the cases, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Fakhruddin Chowdhury.

The accused include BNP's Chattogram Metropolitan unit Vice President Safiqur Rahman and Joint Secretary Abdul Halim.

The cases were filed last year with Khulshi Police Station accusing 28 BNP men last of committing subversive activities.
