Ridesharing Services

Six companies get BRTA registration

Six ride-sharing service providing companies have been registered with Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) till yesterday.

The companies are: Pickme Limited, Computer Network System Limited, Obhai Solution Ltd, Chaldal Ltd, Pathao Ltd and Ezzyr Technologies Ltd.

The six companies were given the enlistment certificates after all their papers were found to be in order, Lokman Hossain Mollah, director (engineering) of BRTA, told The Daily Star yesterday.

However, the companies will receive their enlistment certificate once they submit documents of at least 100 vehicles, a mandatory clause to get registration, another BRTA official said.

Online applications of four companies are pending with BRTA, he said. The four companies are: Akash Technology Ltd, Segesta Ltd, Shohoz Ltd and Probahan Ltd.

BRTA started registering ride-sharing service providers on July 1, 18 months after the formulation of the guidelines to regulate the growing sector.

However, the mandatory provision for getting the licence -- the ability to dial 999, the national emergency helpline, using the ride-sharing apps -- was made optional, as police were not ready to deliver the service.

A BRTA official told this correspondent that even though the service providers were almost ready to provide the dial 999 service, police were not.
