Simulators for train drivers launched

For the first time in its history, Bangladesh Railway (BR) has introduced a locomotive simulator to train entry-level loco masters.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan inaugurated the simulators at Kamalapur Railway Station around 11:30am yesterday.

After the inauguration, the minister along with top officials of the ministry visited the building where the simulators have been installed.

The minister said, “We are working to improve our infrastructure.” At present, railway caters less than 10 percent of total transportation in the country. They are trying to take it to 30-40 percent, he added.

These custom-made high-tech simulators will run on virtual tracks. In the first phase, 300km parts of the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Khulna routes have been digitised and are being used in the simulator, said Project Director Nur Ahmed Hossain.

Among others, Md Shamsuzzaman, director general of BR; and Spanish Ambassador Alvaro de Salas also spoke.
