SI killed in Ashulia road accident

A police officer was killed after an unidentified vehicle ran him over while he was crossing the road in Dhaka's Ashulia area this morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Monayem, a sub-inspector of Industrial Police-1.

The SI was on duty when the accident happened around 6:15am. As he was crossing the road after Fajr prayers, a covered van first hit him -- leaving him injured on the road. Later, a bus ran over him.  Monayem was dead on the spot, said Faridul Islam, a sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station.

Driver of both vehicles sped away after the accident. Police are trying to identify the vehicles through collecting CCTV camera footage, Faridul Islam added.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College Morgue for autopsy.
