Shahidur becomes new IFPRI Director for South Asia

International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) appointed Shahidur Rashid of Bangladesh as the Director for South Asia.

Rashid, a senior research fellow in the Development Strategy and Governance Division of IFPRI, will join the New Delhi based position on April 16, succeeding Pramod Joshi of India, who took office in February 2012.

Shenggen Fan, director general of IFPRI made the announcement of Shahidur’s appointment on March 13.

Fan said, Shahidur has strong research records and has contributed in large projects in Ethiopia, Bangladesh and several other multi-country research projects.

“His work has influenced policymaking and investment priorities in Ethiopia and Bangladesh,” the DG added.

Rashid joined IFPRI as a postdoctoral fellow in 1991 after completing his post graduation in Economics from Chittagong University in 1987 and PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999.
