Shafiqur Rahman passes away

Mohammed Shafiqur Rahman, a former official of the World Bank, died on December 13 in Virginia, USA.

He left behind his wife Shawkat Ara Begum, five siblings, four children and four granddaughters, says a press release.

Shafiqur Rahman began his career with CARE -- first as an administrative officer and later as a programme director. He worked for the international organisation from 1961 to 1967.

He joined the WB office in Dhaka in 1969. He retired from in 1996 as a programme officer. He was instrumental in tracking and coordinating millions of dollars of disbursement funds through various government agencies. After retirement, he relocated to Virginia to live close to his children.
