Seven killed in road accidents

Train kills youth in Joypurhat

Seven people were killed and 16 injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Natore, three people were killed and 10 injured after a truck hit a pickup from behind on Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Ranigram area of Gurudaspur upazila.

Ruhul Amin, 35, Abdul Kader, 50, and Rakibul Hasan, 25, who were aboard the pickup, died instantly, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banpara Highway Police Station.

In Faridpur, three people were killed and six injured after a microbus plunged into a ditch beside Dhaka-Khulna highway in Komorpur area of Sadar upazila.

Police said the driver lost his control over the steering.

The deceased are Mohammad Aslam, 35, and his cousin Asiya Begum, 29, and Mohiron Nesa.

The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

In Gopalganj, a covered van driver died after the vehicle hit a truck from behind on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Muksudpur area.

Nazimuddin Sheikh, 30, from Borothanadi village in Bhola, was declared dead at Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex.

Police seized both the vehicles.

Meanwhile, an unidentified youth was killed after being hit by a moving train in Dak Bungalow area of Joypurhat town, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

The accident occurred while the youth was trying to cross a level crossing, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.
