Seven get life term jail in N’ganj

Seven people were sentenced to life term imprisonment in a case filed for murder of a youth in Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj on February 26, 2010.

The seven convicts are -- Sajib, Delwar Hossain Delu, Jahidul Islam Joy, Shamim, Rafik, Yusuf, and Rubel alias Yasin. The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each. 

They were involved in the murder of  Arafat Hossain, a college student involved in sand business.

His father Anwar Hossain, who had filed the case with Siddhirganj Police Station after the incident, died three years ago.

Justice Sheikh Razia Sultana of Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court-2 gave the verdict yesterday, in presence of Sajib, Rubel, and Jahidul. The other convicts are absconding.

Two other accused, Shafikul Islam Shofi and Raju Ahmed, were acquitted.

Earlier in 2010, Arafat Hossain helped police catch Sajib, a runaway accused in a case of violence against women. After getting bail, Sajib and his associates abducted Arafat, then hacked him to death. 

Later, Sajib, Delwar, and Rubel confessed the crime in a statement. The court gave verdict after hearing the testimonies of fourteen out of 25 witnesses.
