Selima, Iqbal included in BNP standing committee

BNP has inducted its vice chairmen Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku into the party’s standing committee, the highest policymaking body of the party.

The announcement came from BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters yesterday.

“We had announced fresh committees following the council meeting. Some posts in the standing committee remained vacant following deaths of several leaders,” said Rizvi.

The standing committee consists of 19 posts, 17 of which were filled after the party’s sixth council on March 19, 2016.

Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Zamiruddin Sircar, Tarikul Islam, Mahbubur Rahman, ASM Hannan Shah, MK Anwar, Mirza Abbas, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed and Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir were named the committee members.

The number came down to 14 after Tariqul, Hannan and Anwar died. Three posts still remain vacant.
