Salon employee beaten to death

An employee of a men’s salon was beaten to death, allegedly by his colleagues, at Jorpukur in Gazipur town on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Asedul Rony, 35, hailing from Naogaon district. Police arrested five persons that night in connection with the murder. They were identified as Al-Amin, 19; Rimon, 20; Laizu, 25; Rimon, 18, and Azizur, 25. All five worked with Rony at the salon. 

An Ansar member providing security at Gazipur’s Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital said around 12:30am that night, some people brought Rony to the hospital. Upon learning of Rony’s death, they tried to flee. Ansar members at the hospital managed to catch Amin and Rimon, and handed them over to police. Law enforcers held their three colleagues the same night. 

Rony’s sister Jhorna Begum claimed that the arrestees beat up Rony inside the barbershop, leaving him critically injured.

Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital’s resident medical officer Pranay Bushan Das said Rony was already dead when he was brought to the hospital. His body bore injury marks, the doctor said.

Citing an initial interrogation, Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s acting Sadar OC Shamir Chandra Sutradhar said all the arrestees used to work with Rony at the salon.

Rony was allegedly harassing his colleague Laizu’s sister-in-law, and this led to the beating, he said quoting arrestees.

No case was filed in this regard till filing this report at 8pm yesterday.
