Safeguard dignity of legal profession

Chief justice urges lawyers, judges

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain yesterday urged lawyers to conduct at least two cases without any fee, in order to ensure justice for justice-seekers, alongside continuing providing legal aid at government cost.

He also said lawyers and justice-seekers should look to settle cases through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) system -- a process in which cases are disposed of outside court through compromise.

The chief justice said this while speaking as chief guest at Brihottor Mymensingh Utsob (Greater Mymensingh Festival)-2019 at Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium.

He said the bar association and the bench (of judges) should be more vocal against all anomalies, in order to safeguard the dignity of legal profession.

Lawyers' talent, wisdom and competence have been playing an effective role in establishing rule of law and justice in the country, he said, adding that the judiciary will go ahead with coordinated efforts of lawyers and judges.

Presided over by Brihottor Mymensingh Ainjibi Kalyan Samity President AKM Fazlul Haque Khan Farid, the meeting was also attended by senior judges, lawyers and SCBA President Advocate Zainul Abedin.
