Road crashes kill five people

Four people were killed in road accidents in Tarakanda and Trishal upazila of Mymensingh in the last two days, while a college student from Patuakhali lost his life.

In Tarakanda, auto-rickshaw driver Sirajul Islam (31) and Monju Mia (42) were killed at Khicha Bazar area on the Mymensingh-Netrakona road yesterday.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Tarakanda Police Station Md Abul Khayer said a Netrakona-bound truck collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw, killing Sirajul on the spot and injuring two passengers around 7am.

In Trishal, Sultan Mahmud (42) and Abdur Rouf (45) were killed in an accident at Ragamara area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Saturday.

The two were driver and helper of a cement-laden truck. The accident occurred when the truck collided head-on with another truck, said Mahmudul Islam, the OC of Trishal Police Station.

Tanjil Ahmed (22), succumbed to his injuries at Neurosciences Hospital in Dhaka where he was under treatment, after suffering a motorcycle accident in Karpurkathi area of Baufal in Patuakhali. Two others were also injured in the accident.
