Road crashes kill 8

At least eight people were killed in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.

In Chittagong, four-year-old Farista Akhter, daughter of Md Selim, succumbed to her injuries at CMCH, after she fell from a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Chattogram's Chawkbazar area, reports our correspondent.

The accident took place in front of Chawk Super Market, said Hosne Ara, an aunt of the deceased, adding that the lock of the auto-rickshaw's door was loose.

In Thakurgaon, motorcyclist Farukh Hossain, 36, died after a Debiganj-bound pick-up van hit the bike on Boda-Debiganj road in Boda upazila of Panchagarh, leaving him seriously injured, reports our correspondent.

He succumbed to his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

In Mymensingh, three persons were killed and another injured in a road accident in Beltoli Jamtola area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, fire fighters said.

The victims were identified as farmer Md Zakir Hossain, 30, Abdul Khaleque, 28 and Shahid Mia, 30. 

Another unidentified labourer who sustained injuries was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The four were run over by a truck killing Zakir and Khaleque on the spot and injuring two others. Shahid died on way to hospital, said Md Shahidur Rahman, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Mymensingh.

Police seized the vehicle but its driver managed to flee.

Meanwhile, in Chuadanga, three persons, including two brothers, were killed as a stone-laden truck hit a human haulier on Chuadanga-Meherpur road in Alamdanga upazila, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Rakib Hasan, 22, Sakib Hasan, 12, sons of Akul Ali of the village and driver Liton, 34, said Abdus Salam, deputy director of Chuadanga Fire and Civil Defence.

Liton died on spot while the injured were taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where they were declared dead.
