Road crashes kill 6

Six people, including four in Mymensingh alone, were killed in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.

A rickshaw puller  and his passenger were killed at Bhaluka Bus Stand area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway when a Dhaka-bound sand-laden truck hit a  rickshaw, reports our district correspondent.

The victims were identified as Ratan Islam (41) and Anwar Hossain (40), said Al Mahmud Adnan, OC of Bhaluka Highway Police Outpost.

Police and firefighters recovered the bodies, and later handed those over to their families, he said, adding that the truck was seized but its driver fled.

Elsewhere in the district, a freedom fighter and his brother were killed at Kanhor area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal last night. 

The victims are Abdur Rahim (70) and Abdul Mazid (65).

Quoting locals, Trishal police said a Mymensingh bound bus crushed the brothers while they were crossing the road around 8pm. The bus driver fled the scene with the vehicle, he added.

A motorbike collided with a picnic bus at Cumilla Kotbari area, killing a university student and injuring two.

The deceased was identified as Yeasir Bin Asraf (22). Inspector Nazmul Alam of Kotbari police outpost said the body was sent to Cumilla Medical College for autopsy, while the injured  were admitted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

A three-year-old  was killed after being hit by a CNG-run  auto-rickshaw in Majhipara  village Gaibandha's Sundarganj, reports UNB.

  Abdullahil Zaman, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station, said,  "The accident occurred when child was trying to cross the road. He succumbed to his injuries while being  taken to a local hospital," the OC added.
