Road, auditorium named after Abul Mansur Ahmad

A road in Mymensingh's Trishal upazila and an auditorium of the municipality have been named after renowned politician and litterateur Abul Mansur Ahmad. 

Authorities of Trishal upazila parishad and municipality declared to commemorate Ahmad's 122nd birth anniversary fittingly.

The declaration came following a memorial discussion on Friday, organised by Sonjibon Jubo Songstha, a social welfare organisation of the upazila, at the conference room of Trishal upazila parishad.

Speakers have called upon the new generation to devote themselves to social service, literature and journalism, following Ahmad's footsteps.

Born in the district's Dhanikhola village on September 3, 1898, Ahmad was one of the best satirical writers of Bengali literature. He also had illustrious careers in journalism and politics.

Trishal Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mustafizur Rahman presided over Friday's event, while Trishal Upazila Parishad Chairperson Alhaj Abdul Motin Sarker was chief guest and Trishal Municipality Mayor ABM Anisuzzaman special guest.

Addressing the programme, Anisuzzaman said, "A university has been set up in Trishal to preserve the memory of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Ahmad was very close to him, and yet we have not been able to establish anything in his remembrance. So, the time has come to reinvigorate Ahmad's memory."

Abdul Motin said Ahmad is an iconic figure for Trishal's youth. "We need to organise more programmes to enlighten the new generation about Ahmad's work."

UNO Mustafizur said, "It is a matter of great pride for Trishal's people that such a huge personality like Ahmad was born and raised in the upazila, but there is no trace of him here. Through today's event, youths are remembering him, preserving his memory, which is a positive change."

Conducted by Fahim Ahmed Mondol, central president of Sonjibon Jubo Songstha, many prominent local journalists spoke at the programme.

Later, in response to requests of Jubo Songstha leaders, the upazila chairperson announced to name a road in Trishal "Abul Mansur Ahmad Road", and the municipal mayor decided to name the municipal auditorium after the noted litterateur.

At the end of the programme, prayers were offered to seek forgiveness for Ahmad's departed soul.
