Road accidents kill six

Six people were killed in road accidents across the country in the last two days, our correspondents and news agencies report. 

In Narayanganj, Ahmed Ali (65) was killed after a bus ran him over on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Rupganj yesterday.

Quoting witnesses, police said Ali was crossing the highway near Bhulta flyover. Locals rescued Ali and took him to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police said they were trying to arrest the driver.

Meanwhile, three people were killed in the capital in the last two days.

In Gandaria, an unidentified rickshaw-puller was killed after a truck ran him over around 3:30am yesterday, said police.

He was rushed to a hospital with injuries, where doctors pronounced him dead. The body was kept at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy, police added.

In Gulshan, security guard Shamsuzzaman (42) was killed after a car hit him around 11:30pm on Tuesday.

He was on duty at a restaurant in the area when the accident occurred, said police.

He succumbed to his injuries around 12:15am while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The body was kept at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy, they added.

In Rampura, Bashar Ali (26) was killed after a car hit him when he was crossing a road around 1am on Tuesday. said police.

Critically injured Bashar was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police arrested the car driver.

In Nilphamari, Kamrunnahar Begum (40) was killed after a three-wheeler carrying her collided with another at Boro Bhita Point in Jaldhaka upazila on Tuesday night, said police, quoting locals. After the collision, the vehicle carrying Kamrunnahar overturned, injuring the passengers.

Firefighters rescued her and admitted her to the upazila health complex. She succumbed to her injuries the same night.

An unnatural death case was lodged in this connection.

In Munshiganj, one Anik Islam was killed after his motorbike collided with another one in Moricha Bridge area of Sirajdikhan on Tuesday afternoon, said police.

Anik died while being taken to a hospital. The injured were admitted to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka.
