Road accidents kill six

Six people were killed and seven injured in road accidents in four districts during the last two days.

A battery-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed as the vehicle was hit by a truck on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Panchpara area of Nandail upazila yesterday, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.

Sabuj Mia, 30, son of Mubarak Hossain from Panchpara in Nandail, died on the spot, said Mamun Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nandail Highway Police Station.

The truck driver fled the scene. A case was filed, said the OC.

Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, a man was killed and five people were injured as a truck carrying them fell into a ditch beside Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Madarerhat village of Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur on Thursday night.

Hasan Ali, 40, son of Ramzan Ali from Mahdipur in Mithapukur, died instantly, said police.

The injured were undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

BSS from Habiganj reports, two people were killed and two injured as a truck crashed into a shop beside Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Dakbanglow area of Madhabpur upazila yesterday.

Ayub Ali, 35, from Madhabpur and owner of the shop, and Jonaid Mia, 28, from Bijoynagar upazila, died on the spot, said police.

The accident happened as the trucker lost his control over the vehicle, the law enforcers quoted locals as saying.

Police seized the truck and sent the bodies to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, said Shaistaganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Liakot Hossain.

A case was filed in this connection.

The news agency from Kushtia adds, a teenager was killed instantly as a shallow engine-run vehicle ran her over in Shealah area of Daulatpur upazila yesterday.

The deceased -- Usha, 14 -- was from Mothurapur area.

Meanwhile, Johura Khatun, 40, from Chunia Mor village in the upazila, died as another shallow engine-run vehicle hit her on Mirpur-Daulatpur road in Chunia Mor area of the same upazila yesterday.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Azizur Rahman said the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit her.
