Road accidents kill four

Four people were killed and two were injured in road accidents in two districts during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Patuakhali, two youths were killed and another was injured as a motorbike they were riding hit a roadside tree in Nashakata Bazar area under Galachipa upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased -- Simon (24) and Raihan (18) -- hailed from Boalia village in the district. The injured -- Asadul (17) -- was admitted to Galachipa Upazila Health Complex, said Galachipa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shawkat Anwar Islam.

All the victims were fishermen by profession, said the OC.

Following the accident, the motorbike fell into a roadside ditch, said the police officer.

The bodies were sent to Patuakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, another motorbike rider Hadis Uddin (22) from Ghataker Andua village in Mirzaganj upazila died as the vehicle fell into a roadside ditch at Kathaltali in the upazila on Saturday night.

The victim was on the way to Mirzaganj from Bakerganj, said Mirzaganj Police Station OC Mahibullah.

In Sirajganj, two trucks collided head-on on Bogura-Sirajganj highway in Chandaikona Bazar area of Raiganj upazila yesterday morning, killing a truck driver and injuring another.

The deceased -- Modon Chouhan (45) -- hailed from Talore, Bogura.

Hatikumrul Highway Police Station OC Md Shajahan Ali said the accident took place when one of the front wheels of a Dhaka-bound truck punctured and the driver lost his control over the steering.

Following the accident, engines of both the vehicles caught fire, said the OC.

Later, firefighters brought the blaze under control.
