Road accidents kill four

Four people were killed and another was injured in road accidents in three districts in the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Narsingdi, two people died after a truck and a pick-up van had collided head-on on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Bogirothpur in Madhabdi yesterday.

The deceased are pick-up van driver Amir Hossain, 35, resident of Baghata area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila and the van passenger Anabil, 24, from Madhumati Bakery of Shibpur upazila.

On receiving the news, police rushed to the spot and seized both the truck and pick-up van.

Police recovered the dead bodies and sent them to Narsingdi General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The driver and helper of the truck fled the scene, said Madhabdi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Taher Dewan.

In Gopalganj, a youth was killed and another was injured in a motorbike accident on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased is Sojib Sheikh, 17, son of Lal Mia Sheikh of Paikerpara village in Kashiani upazila.

Quoting locals, Azazur Rahman, OC of Kahsiani Police Station said the accident took place when Sojib was returning home from work by his motorbike. He lost control of the bike and hit a passer-by who was crossing the highway at Ghonapara bazar area.

Both were injured, so they were taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex. The on-duty doctor referred Sojib to Gopalganj General Hospital, but he died on the way there, he added.

In Mymensingh, a rice mill worker was run over by a private car in Phulpur upazila headquarters yesterday.

The deceased is Aynul Haque, 35, from Sahapur village in Phulpur.

Quoting locals, Mehdi Hasan, OC of Phulpur Police Station said the incident occurred when Aynul was going to his workplace by a rickshaw van.

Critically injured Aynul was rushed to Phulpur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead, said the OC.

The car driver fled the scene with the vehicle. A case was lodged with the police station.
